Associated Supervisor: Chief Deployment Demonstrator Mission (DDM) Engineer

About the Position: As the (Lead) Electrical Engineer, you are in charge of the power systems and telemetry and telecommand (TMTC) systems of our Deployment Demonstrator Rover. As a fully-fledged Mars Mission is soon approaching, Team Tumbleweed has reached a critical point in which our cutting-edge technology is being developed and tested at a high magnitude of complexity and intensity. To operate and run the numerous instruments in the payload and to power the mechanism required to deploy our rover, we need a highly reliable power system that can operate during reentry into Earths atmosphere. In this position, you will oversee the development of this subsystem and work closely with our Payload and Rover engineers to ensure a successful integration of the electronics.

  • Desirable: Familiarity with solar power solutions

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field

  • Expected commitment of at least 1.5 years and approximately 15 hours per week

  • (Lead) Leadership experience and the ability to lead a small team of engineers effectively

Responsibilities:

  • (Lead) Oversee the design of the power and electronics system.

  • (Lead) Regularly update the project leads on the development progress.

  • Develop and implement robust fault-tolerant power systems to ensure reliability in challenging environments.

  • Collaborate with our systems and rover engineers to integrate TMTC systems seamlessly with the rovers onboard systems.

  • Establish monitoring systems to track the systems performance.

  • Make responsible design decisions that fall in line with the system requirements.

  • Ensure that power systems comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
