What You’ll Do:
We are looking for someone to fill an exciting new role that will help Backroads continue to grow profitability and increase quality at the same time, working closely with our incredible team of Europe Regional Managers. The European TD Assistant Director will have exceptional communication skills, a high EQ, great business instincts and proven negotiation skills, and the ability to tackle complex problems and convert them into achievable action items. This position reports to Cat Malone, Trip Development Sr. Director, and collaborates closely with Justin Brown, TD Assistant Director, North America & LAAPA
Responsibilities include:
  • Manage European RMs, including annual performance reviews and ongoing mentorship and support
  • Partner with RMs to improve quality on all European trips, and especially those in high volume areas
  • Work with European RMs to identify opportunities for cost savings and increasing value for our guests
  • Oversee creation of new business processes for Trip Content, ensuring clear information for our Go Live process, for Sales, Marketing and our Guests
  • Partner with IT on systems enhancements to support RM team
  • Support European RMs in escalated supplier negotiations, take part in escalated negotiations, and work with Hotel Group Manager to create definition around negotiation process and playbook
  • Own RM hiring, onboarding, training materials & curriculum
  • Oversee European Supplier Operations Team members until the Supplier Ops Management is in place, at high level, providing in-time-zone management (they’ll report to managers in Berkeley), mentorship, guidance, and leadership
What You’ll Need:
  • BA or BS degree, or equivalent experience
  • Backroads experience at the manager level, Regional Manager experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with budgeting and aptitude for analysis (excel skills proficient or higher)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience leading a team of high-level employees including ongoing mentorship and conducting performance reviews
  • Strong analytical skills and organization, and a structured approach to solving business problems
  • Experience with Trip Development technology tools (Softrip and JIRA preferred), and comfortable with learning new and complex systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders across departments.
