Position

Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemical Recycling of Textile Waste

About the role

We develop innovative circular chemical technologies to tackle textile waste. This position focuses on hydrothermal treatment and complementary processes, working at the interface of fundamental research and real‑world application.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and optimize laboratory‑scale chemical recycling experiments on textile waste streams.
  • Develop and apply advanced analytical methods (chromatography, spectroscopy, elemental analysis) to characterize feedstocks, intermediates, and recycled products.
  • Investigate how textile composition (cotton, polyester, blends, additives, dyes) influences process performance and product quality.
  • Collaborate with project partners to integrate results into larger process design and techno‑economic evaluations.
  • Publish findings in high‑impact journals and present at international conferences.
  • Supervise PhD and BSc/MSc students within the Chemical Recycling group.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong background in chemical recycling, thermochemical conversion, polymer processing, or related areas.
  • Hands‑on experience with hydrothermal treatment, solvolysis, or pyrolysis.
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques (GC‑MS, LC‑MS, FTIR, NMR, GPC, XRF).
  • Proven publication record and strong scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with industrial and academic partners.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: €4,728–€6,433 gross per month (scale 11, UFO profile Researcher), plus 8.0% holiday allowance and 8.3% year‑end bonus.
  • 24‑month employment contract, 1.0 FTE.
  • Flexible working hours and possibility to work partly from home.
  • Commuting and internet allowance for full‑time employees.
  • 29 vacation days plus 4 additional public holidays per year; 12 additional days can be accumulated.
