Your function
We are looking for a junior lecturer who can strengthen our department by giving high-quality teaching in the areas of “Parallel Programming” and “High-Performance Scientific Computing”. As a junior lecturer, you will be involved in various teaching-related and organisational activities both at Masters and Bachelors level, with a special focus on the MSc Computer Science and Msc Computational Science. You will be embedded in courses such as “Programming Large-Scale Parallel Systems” and “Parallel Programming Practical”. You will be encouraged to work on academic innovations and to build a portfolio in the context of education as a preparation for your next career paths. To this end, you will have the opportunity to acquire a basic qualification in teaching at the university level (‘BKO’).
Your duties
The junior lecturer will be expected to
- support teachers in individual courses in the associated education programmes
- supervise/coordinate bachelor and/or master thesis projects
- coordinate student assistants
- provide technical and organisational assistance for project-oriented courses and thesis projects
- advise on and help with the further development of innovative teaching concepts
- provide organisational assistance in education-related events
Your profile - have completed a Master in Computer Science, Computational Science, or a related Masters programme
- have an academic background and competencies in parallel programming and high-performance computing
- knowledge of scientific computing, numerical methods, and numerical linear algebra is a plus
- be enthusiastic about teaching
- have strong oral and written communication skills in English
- possess good organizational skills
- be proactive and able to work independently

Depending on education and experience on a full-time basis, the salary is a minimum of €3,226 (scale 10) and a maximum of €5,090 (scale 10) gross per month. The position is classified according to UFO profile: Teacher 4 and is open for 0,8 FTE. The starting date is ASAP and will be defined together with the selected candidate.
A full Junior Lecturer Trajectory is 4 years + 2 months probation, and cannot be extended beyond this period. This position therefore does not lead to permanent employment.
We also offer you attractive fringe benefits and regulations. Some examples:
- a full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
- 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
- solid pension scheme (ABP)
- contribution to commuting expenses
- optional model for designing a personalized benefits package
